Back in mid-March, we wondered if the Cincinnati Bengals might be one of the teams sniffing around free agent Cam Jordan, formerly of the New Orleans Saints.
The Bengals still want to add rotational help to the defensive line. Bonus points, perhaps, if they get a splash of veteran leadership added to the mix, too.
And it’s an idea gaining a little steam nationally.
Shanna McCarriston and Carter Bahns of CBS Sports listed the Bengals as a possible Jordan fit after Trey Hendrickson’s departure:
“There is no one-for-one replacement for a star edge rusher of that caliber, but Jordan is the kind of reliable force who can guarantee production while saving Cincinnati a bit of money. Assuming Jordan commands a modest contract entering his age-37 season, the Bengals could use the leftover cap space to boost a defense that has held them back for far too long.”

A lot of stars would need to align, including the contract numbers and the Bengals getting over the whole historical stubbornness around age.
But Jordan just had 10.5 sacks last year. He’s still productive and an obvious upgrade to the rotation. And, along with new arrival Jonathan Allen, another strong veteran mentor for the likes of Shemar Stewart and Myles Murphy.
Unlikely? Yes. But the Bengals backing into a free agent like Jordan late in the process would quiet some of the whispers that the team isn’t as “all-in” as it should be right now.
