As NFL offenses get more and more explosive, the best way for defenses to adjust is by having guys at premier positions with rare skill sets. One of the most important traits in a defensive player is versatility. Former Trojan Eric Gentry is projected to be drafted in later rounds, but he has a unique frame and ability that will be attractive to organizations which know how to develop players.

Eric Gentry, both last season and since he has gotten reps, he has been one of the most productive players on the Trojans‘ defense. Last season in 2025, he had 76 tackles, 3 sacks, and 5 forced fumbles. The production is there with Gentry; he can blitz, he is solid in coverage due to his length, and he understands the importance of punching the ball out.

His size alone makes him worthy of taking a chance on, as he stands 6 feet tall and 6 inches. He is 225 pounds, but any great organization will be able to put some weight on him. With his size, he can line up on the edge and be a blitzer, but he has also proven himself as a more than serviceable linebacker.

There will be a great defensive mind that takes a chance on Gentry and uses his skillset to elevate his defense and turn Gentry into one of the more dangerous defensive players in the game. The Traits are there, the ability has been shown in flashes, all he needs now is great development.
