When Marquis “Hollywood” Brown signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, that move made sense for the depth needed at wide receiver. The Elijah Moore signing, though, brought up more questions than anything.

Everyone’s first thought was that Moore and A.J. Brown are friends and have considered each other “family,” which played into the Eagles’ decision to sign Moore, so Brown has someone he trusts in Philly. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman addressed the matter at the NFL league meetings in Phoenix, Arizona, as he shut down that narrative.

“Everything that we’re doing is based on the particulars of the players. Nothing we’re doing (is) to do favors,” Roseman said via The Athletic’s Zach Berman. “We’re basing players based on what they can bring to the team.”

Elijah Moore not an Eagle because of A.J. Brown

Some Eagles fans and media members are so desperate for answers about the Brown situation that any move the team makes has to be about Brown. Granted, this one was low-hanging fruit, but Roseman is simply trying to make the team better.

Moore is not guaranteed to make the roster as well. He’s got some tough competition with a potential rookie receiver to be selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, as well as Darius Cooper and Johnny Wilson already on the roster.

Depth has been a concern at receiver for a bit, as Jahan Dotson has been the WR3 on offense with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith the top guys. Dotson didn’t get many targets, as the rest of the receivers didn’t either.

No one really knows if Moore is even going to make that kind of impact on the team or if he even makes the 53-man roster. After just 112 yards last season, he’s got a lot to prove to the Eagles.
