Perhaps the biggest storyline of the 2026 NFL offseason revolved around a move that didn’t happen after the Baltimore Ravens reneged on their trade agreement with the Las Vegas Raiders for edge rusher Maxx Crosby.

The decision by Baltimore had a huge ripple effect on the rest of the league and left many people bewildered by the move. One of those many, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay, told reporters Monday at the NFL owners’ meeting in Phoenix that he was “shocked” and “surprised” by the Ravens’ decision.

“I was shocked and you’re just surprised because that was just such a big headline,” McVay said. “It’s just surprising and you’re bummed out for you people who are negatively affected.”

McVay and the Rams were one of the top teams “keeping tabs” on the Crosby trade situation, but ultimately didn’t seem to be involved in the discussions with the Raiders. The Ravens had originally given up the No. 14 pick in the 2026 draft and a first-round pick in 2027, which was a huge boon for a Raiders team looking to make major upgrades in the Klint Kubiak era.

Would the Rams have given up that much to acquire Crosby? It’s impossible to say. But McVay noted that Crosby is still “a total dog,” so perhaps that trade idea could still be on the table for L.A. in 2026.
