Shedeur Sanders announced on Monday afternoon that he is returning to his roots with his jersey number. Sanders is switching from No. 12 to his preferred No. 2.
Sanders, a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, will now don the same number he wore at Colorado and Jackson State.

The former Colorado star wore No. 12 during his rookie year, as No. 2 was taken by wide receiver DeAndre Carter, who is now a free agent.
Sanders reacted to the news by posting “#2” on X and photos of him in a No. 2 Browns jersey on Instagram.
The number clearly means a lot to Sanders, who has worn it since he was a child and even made it part of his branding. Colorado retired his number last spring after two record-breaking seasons in Boulder.
The rookie quarterback started the Browns’ final seven games, going 3-4. He threw for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. With new head coach Todd Monken now leading the way, Sanders likely gets a chance to be Cleveland’s starter in 2026.
