Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay looks on before a game against the New Orleans Saints.
The Los Angeles Rams made headlines this offseason. The biggest move of them all was the trade for all-pro cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs.
McDuffie’s addition to the team addressed the Rams biggest weakness in 2025 right from the jump, their secondary. The Rams were notorious for giving up deep balls in the second half of last season.
Luckily, head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead waste no time when it comes to building a championship caliber team.
McVay is in attendance at the NFL Annual League meeting in Glendale, Arizona. He spoke to the media Monday, March 30 about his new defensive weapon, where he compares McDuffie to a former Ram and old friend…

Sean McVay Compares Trent McDuffie to Ex-Ram Jalen Ramsey
Sean McVay recently opened up to the media at the NFL Annual League meeting about his new cornerback, even comparing him to a former Rams star cornerback, Jalen Ramsey.
“You look at the four years of his body of work and the versatility, where he can do a lot of things that were similar to what made Jalen Ramsey such a special player for us when our defense was really operating at a high clip,” McVay said per Stu Jackson’s post on X.
Sean McVay on new Rams CB Trent McDuffie:
“You look at the four years of his body of work and the versatility, where he can do a lot of things that were similar to what made Jalen Ramsey such a special player for us when our defense was really operating at a high clip.”
Former Rams star cornerback Jalen Ramsey signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025, after a two-year stint with the Miami Dolphins.
The Rams acquired Ramsey in 2019 from the Jacksonville Jaguars in a blockbuster trade, similar to Trent McDuffie’s.
Jacksonville received two first-round draft picks and a fourth-round pick in exchange for Ramsey. Whereas, the Chiefs received a first-round draft pick and three late-round picks for McDuffie.
The Rams made history by extending the corners to a record-breaking contract at the time.
In 2020, the Rams extended Ramsey to a five-year, $105 million extension, making him the highest paid corner until the McDuffie entered the picture. McDuffie was signed to a four-year, $124 million contract before put on a Rams uniform.

Sean McVay Ready For Trent McDuffie To Make a Serious Impact on the Los Angeles Rams
Sean McVay spoke to NFL Network chief national reporter Steve Wyche per an NFL.com article by Nick Shook, to discuss to what McDuffie will add for the Rams in 2026.
“He adds a lot,” McVay said about McDuffie, a former All-Pro selection. “I think first and foremost, that was a spot we wanted to be able to address.”
“When you do something of that nature, you better make sure they’re checking every single box in terms of who they are as a human, what does the tape look like over the first four years of his career, who is he, how does he move, what’s he all about,” McVay said. “And we had some inside knowledge based on [defensive backs coach] Jimmy Lake having been his coach in college. Obviously, what he’s put on tape and then what you hear about the human being and everything he represents, we felt like it was worth it.
McVay dives further into McDuffie’s versality, “He’s got the ability to play field, boundary, star, he can play the dime spot if you wanted him to.”
“What he does do is he allows us to be able to move the hard downs around, be able to change the math in our favor,” McVay said. “The more I get to know him, every time I talk to him I just leave that conversation feeling better about myself just because of the way that he is, and I’m excited to be able to work with him.”
