Stanford’s quarterback room will have more depth this season with Charlie Mirer being put on scholarship through fall quarter 2026, which means he’ll be back for one more season. Mirer was a redshirt junior last season and will be a redshirt senior this upcoming season.
Mirer got his first snaps of his career in Stanford’s loss to Notre Dame in the final game of the 2025 season. Mirer went 2-3 for 22 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions for a passing efficiency rating of 238.3. Mirer also had a nice 30 yard run, showing off his ability to run.
While Mirer is projected to be a reserve quarterback again this year, he is at the same time a veteran guy who has been around the college game for a while. He also showed good mobility against Notre Dame and made the most of the limited opportunity that he did get, finding the end zone. With rising redshirt junior Dylan Rizk unable to get a snap all season last year and Elijah Brown transferring out to Washington, there is a chance that Mirer could at a minimum compete for the backup quarterback job (assuming Davis Warren wins the job handily). Incoming freshman Mike Mitchell Jr. will also be in the mix.
Looking ahead to the spring, it’ll be interesting to see how Mirer does in Pritchard’s offense and whether or not over the course of the spring and subsequent fall camp, he’s able to make a case to be the backup quarterback. Regardless, Mirer adds more depth at the quarterback spot and a veteran arm. That alone gives him value to this Cardinal team for the 2026 season.
