The Green Bay Packers quarterback situation is an odd position to be talking about this offseason, given that Jordan Love is the starter.
But it is more to do with who is behind him.
With Malik Willis moving on to the Miami Dolphins in free agency, the Packers need a veteran quarterback to come and back up Love.
But who?Â
Sports Illustrated’s Mike Kadlick has thrown an interesting name out there — Kirk Cousins.
“While the Packers already have their starting quarterback in Jordan Love, they lost one of the league’s top backups, Malik Willis, to the Dolphins in free agency,” Kadlick wrote. “As currently constructed, their QB room consists of Love, Kyle McCord and Desmond Ridder.
“He’s familiar with the Packers’s West Coast-adjacent offense and would provide them an insurance policy behind Love, who’s missed time in two of his first three seasons as Green Bay’s full-time starter.”

Could Cousins land in Green Bay?
Of course, he could, but there are a couple of reasons why this is problematic.Â
One, does Cousins want to be a backup? Or does he still see himself as a starter? In Green Bay, it’s Love’s show, and only an injury would see him hit the field.
The second one is, would it put unnecessary pressure on Love? If he has a run of bad games, will Packers fans urge the coaching staff to put Cousins in? That isn’t ideal.
So, there are a couple of things to think about when it comes to Cousins in Green Bay.
It’s a left-field move, but it could create more problems than it fixes.
