The Carolina Panthers are going to lock horns with the Houston Texans for a bit longer than expected this summer.

As announced on Tuesday, the two teams have scheduled a joint practice ahead of their preseason matchup in August. The Texans are set to host the Panthers at NRG Stadium for the second week of exhibition action.

Head coach Dave Canales spoke about the newly-minted session following this afternoon’s outing of organized team activities.

“That’ll be a great one, you know,” Canales told reporters, via Darin Gantt of Panthers.com. “It’s warm here; it’s really warm in Houston. I was in Tampa for a year, but I’ve also heard Houston just gives you that good work, and the humidity and the heat will be great, especially opening up at Jacksonville. So it’ll be a great opportunity for us to get on the road.”

Canales and the Panthers will begin their regular-season slate on the road against the Jaguars.

That opener will be preceded by the “rehearsals” with the Cleveland Browns (Aug. 8), the Texans (Aug. 16) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (Aug. 21).
