The Dallas Cowboys‘ offense was a fireworks show throughout the 2025 season.
First-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer implemented creative playcalling to get the Cowboys in advantageous situations. It resulted in quarterback Dak Prescott throwing for 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns against 10 interceptions, running back Javonte Williams eclipsing 1,200 yards rushing, and two 1,000-yard wide receivers in George Pickens (1,429) and CeeDee Lamb (1,077).
On Tuesday, Up & Adams with Kay Adams introduced Schottenheimer by playing a highlight reel, including Prescott scrambling for an eight-yard touchdown run during the Cowboys’ 21-point comeback win over Philadelphia in Week 12.
“The Dak run, that’s unusual,” Schottenheimer said from the NFL annual league meeting in Phoenix. “You know — he’s probably watching this — you used to be really athletic, bro. I mean, we’re losing a step or two. But basically, [I see] the guys having fun.”

Prescott is entering his age-33 season. For the first four seasons of Prescott’s 10-season NFL career, his mobility was a clear strength. That has waned as Prescott has aged, but it’s more likely due to two severe lower-body injuries.
In October 2020, Prescott suffered a season-ending compound fracture and right ankle dislocation. In 2024, Prescott reportedly partially tore his hamstring tendon off the bone, which required season-ending surgery after eight games.
Elsewhere with Adams, Schottenheimer praised Prescott.
“Drew Brees was one of the first guys I coached,” Schottenheimer said. “He and I became very close. We’re godparents, my wife and I, to their middle son, Bowen. I’ve always said, man, Drew Brees is one of the greatest leaders I’ve ever been around. And then, I met Dak. And they’re on the same level.”
The Cowboys finished last season with a lowly 7-9-1 record largely due to one of the NFL‘s weakest defensive units, but that’s a discussion for a different article.
