Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie probably didn’t intend to stoke the fires of the A.J. Brown trade rumors, but that’s exactly what happened after he spoke on the situation during the NFL annual league meeting.
The three-time All-Pro wide receiver is believed to be a post-June 1 trade candidate, when the team could avoid a massive dead cap charge to make such a move. Brown clearly wasn’t happy on the team last season, despite winning a Super Bowl in 2024.

In only a year, the Eagles went from being on the mountaintop to getting bounced in the wild-card round of the playoffs by an undermanned San Francisco 49ers team. General manager Howie Roseman called Brown an “Eagle,” but he never directly shut down the trade talk involving the star wide receiver.
In fact, he spoke more in the present tense when it came to Brown, which is the same way that Lurie chose to address the matter.
“Howie kept saying A.J.’s an Eagle, and he’s definitely—look, I just will say this, DeVonta [Smith] and A.J., two great receivers and also great teammates,” said Lurie. “I just want to say that. These two are wonderful to have and great teammates and great receivers. He’s an Eagle, we’ll see what happens down the road. So is Devonta, so is Jalen Hurts, so is Saquon [Barkley]. They’re all really great competitors.”
The New England Patriots are expected to be the top suitor for Brown if the Eagles ultimately decide to go through with a trade.

Some NFL fans appear to believe that Brown is on borrowed time in Philadelphia after hearing Lurie’s response. Like Roseman, he appeared to be safe with his words without outright denying the possibility of a trade.
Yes, Brown is a member of the Eagles. But will that still be the case after June 1? NFL fans aren’t as convinced as they once were of Brown’s future in Philly. Here’s what fans were saying on social media on Lurie’s comments.
