The Bills and Kaleida Health have provided a number of memorable moments for the region in the first 10 years of this partnership. The most inspiring story started in November 2020 as Bills MVP quarterback Josh Allen led the Bills to a thrilling victory over the Seattle Seahawks just days after his grandmother, Patricia Allen, passed away. A fan’s tweet encouraging $17 donations to Buffalo’s children’s hospital, a cause important to Allen since his rookie season in 2018, sparked a global response. More than 30,000 donors contributed over $1 million by the end of 2020, and the story received national media coverage with over half a billion impressions.
The hospital established the Patricia Allen Fund (PAF) in December 2020, with input from Josh Allen and his family, to support the Critical Care Team. The fund invests in updated equipment, technology, training, and support programs for children and families. By the fund’s five-year anniversary in November 2025, nearly $17 million was donated by tens of thousands of supporters, much of it in $17 increments.
Kaleida Health has also partnered with defensive end Greg Rousseau since his rookie season in 2021. Rousseau regularly visits hospitals throughout the health system, attends events, and donates memorabilia to support the Kaleida Health Foundation. His appreciation for healthcare is personal, as his mother was a nurse.
Kaleida Health is Western New York’s largest health system. With nearly 10,000 employees, physicians, and practitioners, Kaleida Health is also the region’s largest non-government employer. A nonprofit, Kaleida Health relies on donations from individuals, corporations, and supporters to enhance patient care. The nonprofit health system includes key facilities like:
Buffalo General Medical Center
Gates Vascular Institute
Golisano Children’s Hospital of Buffalo
Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital
Olean General Hospital
Visiting Nursing Association of Western New York
In addition to Kaleida Health as a nonprofit health system, Kaleida Health has two foundations – the Kaleida Health Foundation and The Children’s Hospital of Buffalo Foundation. These foundations provide philanthropic support to advance care across the health system, including investing in innovative equipment and technology, recruiting top clinical excellence, training care providers, and sustaining crucial patient support programs and services.
As the official healthcare provider of the Buffalo Bills, Kaleida Health looks forward to being the care provider for all healthcare needs of our community. Whether a premature baby, a life-altering emergency, a battle with a chronic illness, or routine and preventive care, Kaleida Health is there for every health milestone with advanced, innovative, and compassionate care.
