The Chicago Bears had a chance to make a massive move ahead of the 2025 trade deadline, but at the time, they chose not to take it.

Fast forward about six months, and the Bears decided to make that exact move.

According to Brandon Beane, the Buffalo Bills reached out about DJ Moore, looking to see whether the Bears would trade him at the deadline. Moore was eventually traded to the Bills during this offseason.

“[Moore] was one of the guys that we called and checked,” Beane said H/T Buffalo Sports Talk) “And Chicago shut it down. They were trying to make a run.

“But I think they at least knew there was interest, and they reached back out when we got to Indy [for the NFL combine] and said, ‘Hey, you know, maybe we’d be open if something made sense.’ And we [were] fortunate to be able to figure that out.”

Trading one of the better wide receivers on the roster at the trade deadline, especially when the Bears were a playoff team, would have been met with a lot of criticism from Chicago’s perspective.

I understand why they might have done it if they got a perfect deal, but it was a much better plan to trade him in the offseason as Ryan Poles did.
