The fallout from the Maxx Crosby situation was one of the weirder ones we’ve seen in the NFL in recent years. According to the latest report, it sounds like there were more teams involved than we initially thought. Instead of this just being a Baltimore Ravens and Raiders thing, there were other factors at play.

According to the report, the Dallas Cowboys team doctor, Dan Cooper, played a role in reviewing Crosby’s knee, and that evaluation may have helped shape how teams approached the situation.

“Cooper is the Cowboys team doctor and is a premiere knee specialist,” she stated. “As stated by Shan below, Schefter in the clip says ‘Cooper was one of the doctors who reviewed the images and the Ravens then felt compelled to back out of this trade.’ He has taken on quite a number of tricky knee cases. Possibly explains the Cowboys being out early. Genuinely thought they would re-approach.”

Anne Erickson of Heavy cited Jane Slater’s report and added that she believes there’s still good news for the Cowboys in landing him.

“No matter what is said publicly about the Dallas Cowboys and their attempt to get Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders on the squad, there’s no denying that there was, and still is, interest between these two camps. Now, a Crosby update from an interested team is boosting the Cowboys’ chances of eventually getting him.”

Erickson cited an ESPN report that stated that the Cowboys proposed a few different trades to the Raiders over the past few weeks.

It’s interesting to see everything connected here, but a lot of this makes sense.

The Cowboys’ defense was brutal last season and would be a lot better with Crosby on it.
