Whent he Bucs landed Tom Brady in free agency in 2020, it shocked everyone in the football world. Folks never thought he would leave New England but as the world showed us in that year, anything can happen.
The move was a shocker as we said, but it really caught the recently retired Bucs linebacker Lavonte David off guard. He was asked about that time with the team in a recent episode of Bussin’ with the Boys when he was talking about a wide range of topics. He talked about it in length, starting with when the idea and news first entered his head.
David broke down how he got the news while on the podcast.
“I remember that thing like it was yesterday. At our exit meeting I’m talking to BA (Bruce Arians), he was like, ‘There is a chance might have a shot at the big guy.’ I’m like, ‘Who’s the big guy?’ It was Tom (Brady). . .That actual day, I remember, I was sitting on the couch, eating my cereal, crunch berries, and bro, it came across the ticker. ‘Tom Brady agrees to terms with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.’
The craziness for David didn’t stop at getting the news, as he explains the first conversation with his future teammate was also a fun one.

“Couple days later, he ended up calling my phone. He’s like, ‘Hey, Lavonte, this is Tom. I’m excited to play with you, and not against you anymore. . .Don’t treat me no different. You know, treat me like all the other guys,’ and stuff like that. I’m like, ‘What the hell you talking about? You, Tom Brady. You getting whatever you want.’ You know what I’m saying?”
