This past week, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson has a “good chance” to start this upcoming season.

Since joining the Browns via one of the worst trades in NFL history, Deshaun has not been healthy for a full season. He started just six games in 2022 and suffered season-ending injuries in both 2023 and 2024. He decided to get his injury out of the way early in 2025, tearing his Achilles (for the third time in his career) before week one.

Since joining Cleveland, Deshaun has started 19 games and combined for just over 3300 yards, 19 touchdowns and 12 picks. He’s simultaneously one of the worst and most injury-prone starting quarterbacks in the league.

Currently, Cleveland’s QB room features Deshaun alongside Dillon Gabriel and Shedur Sanders, who both struggled this past season. While it’s reasonable to imagine Watson could win the starting job in Cleveland, it’s more a testament to the roster management issues in Cleveland than the talents of the former Clemson signal caller.
