The 2026 NFL Draft is just three weeks away, and it’s going to be a massive one for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
For starters, they have 12 picks, which is a ton of draft capital to play with. Five of those picks are inside the top 100, their most since 1999.
It’s also a pivotal time for the Steelers, as the organization finds itself at a crossroads after a decade of postseason failures. Pittsburgh had the NFL’s second-oldest roster last year and desperately needs young, cost-controllable starters to help new head coach Mike McCarthy build his program and turn the page from the Mike Tomlin era.
Despite crushing free agency and making lots of big upgrades, the Steelers still have work to do and holes to fill in the draft. They need another receiver, defensive help and more line depth, plus potentially a quarterback if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t return.
On top of all that, Pittsburgh is hosting the draft this year, so it will be right in the Steelers’ backyard.
They’ve struggled in recent drafts, but this is their chance to turn that around and help the franchise stay competitive for the years to come. If they whiff again, it will be a massive setback and a huge missed opportunity to strengthen the roster and set up McCarthy for long-term success.
In other words, NFL analyst and former quarterback Dan Orlovsky was absolutely spot on in calling this “Pittsburgh’s most critical draft in years” on X last week.
