It’s Wednesday, and we are up and running! We have reached the biggest lull of the sports calendar, but the links, news, and updates are still coming. See what is coming your way today on our site and around the internet.

For those who care about such things, we are attempting to dive into Bluesky more as well as Twitter. If you are on either of those platforms, give our site account a follow (personal accounts will be in article bios):

The drama keeps unfolding. The SEC and Big Ten want more bids for their conference, so they are proposing a model where each of their conferences get four auto-bids, two each for the Big 12 and ACC, 1 for the G5 champ, and three at-large teams. No other conference wants this, so the ACC and Big 12 countered with a more balanced model. Theirs would entail five auto-bids to the five highest-ranked conference champs (like it is now) and eleven at-large spots. One can assume the SEC and Big Ten would take up most of those spots anyway, but it doesn’t give them a guarantee. Greg Sankey of the SEC said all options are on the table, but the conferences really like the idea of a play-in tournament for themselves.

It’s time for the Rainbow Warrior offense to arrive after some below-average seasons, and they think they have the right QB in Micah Alejado, who looked great in two games last season. He will pair with Pofele Ashlock, who should be healthy after he wasn’t in 2024, and a slew of incoming transfers. The o-line was pretty good, but needs to improve in the run game and a running back definitely needs to emerge to help the offense out in the red zone and short-yardage situations. On defense, things were pretty good last year and should be again this year. The linebacker unit should be great and the secondary gets Peter Manuma back. If the offense can improve on third down and cut down on penalties, they should win more games in 2025.

The hope was that the Wolf Pack baseball team could join the softball team in winning the conference tournament this season, but it wasn’t meant to be. The baseball team is now 0-for-19 in conference tournaments, despite being the #1 seed three different times. Unfortunately, that is consistent with Nevada athletics in general, which is 3-of-148 in conference tournaments in their sports in the Mountain West. That is not good, in case anyone was wondering.
