There were so many players to appreciate on this year’s Seattle Seahawks team that we still haven’t spent enough time doing so for a lot of them. One of those names is linebacker Drake Thomas.

While media members, myself included, haven’t appreciated Thomas nearly as much as we’d like, those closer to the game have. According to Corbin K. Smith, he’s one of head coach Mike Macdonald’s favorite players.

Back in November, when Thomas had only been starting for a little over a month, Daniel Jeremiah said he was becoming one of his favorite players. This was when he was even more unknown around the league than he is now. From the moment he took over, he was awesome.

This week, Philip Rivers said he was the one Seahawk who stood out in particular when playing against the historic 2026 defense.

While Thomas might not even be a top-10 household name on the 2026 Seahawks, he must be remembered. Without him emerging as an excellent starter after coming in off the bench in Week 3, this team might’ve had a completely different result. Mike Macdonald, Daniel Jeremiah, and Philip Rivers acknowledged that. Seahawks media should as well.

While he’ll make more money this season, he doesn’t need to be any bigger of a piece of the puzzle as he was last year. He’ll continue to be a darling to tape-watchers and league insiders if he can keep up anything close to that level of violence.
