The Baltimore Ravens have never been afraid to trust their draft board over public perception or outside opinions. That’s part of what has made them one of the league’s most consistent organizations. Still, that doesn’t mean they are perfect. Some moves can still raise an eyebrow. A recent report that former LSU Tigers safety A.J. Haulcy is scheduled for a predraft visit with Baltimore falls into that category. That isn’t because Haulcy isn’t talented. He most certainly is. Still, one has to consider where the Ravens currently stand at the position.

Kyle Hamilton is already one of the premier safeties in the NFL. Malaki Starks adds another young, high-upside piece to the room. Jaylinn Hawkins was brought in during free agency to provide additional depth and experience.

On paper, that’s a pretty solid group. So, where does another safety fit?

Haulcy isn’t viewed as a late-round flier. Many evaluators see him as one of the top prospects at his position, which means selecting him would likely require early draft capital. That’s where things become interesting because if the Ravens are truly considering that kind of investment at safety, it suggests something more than a routine visit.

Maybe it’s about flexibility. Baltimore has long valued defensive backs who can move around the formation, and adding another versatile piece could open up new possibilities for how they deploy Hamilton and Starks. Maybe it’s simply due diligence on one of the best players available. Or maybe it’s something else entirely.

What we do know is this: edge rusher, interior offensive line, wide receiver, and defensive line all appear to be more immediate needs. Those are the positions most expect Baltimore to prioritize early, which is why this visit feels different. Then again, when it comes to the Ravens, the unexpected has a way of making sense once the picks are in. That’s what makes this organization a bit unpredictable and one of the best run in all of professional football.
