In the 4th week of free agency, the Lions added another safety for depth. Chuck Clark brings experience, but also some injury concerns over the past three seasons.

Here is the excerpt from my medical report on Chuck Clark:

(Ages in parentheses are at start of 2026 season)

Chuck Clark, S (31)

Contract: pending

Concern level 3/10

Clark showed good durability upon entering the league in 2017, until his ACL tear in 2023. He has proven recovery since the ACL which is reassuring. The ankle injury and torn pec in 2024 are of low concern, since he followed that up with good reliability in 2025.

Overall, age is the primary concern with Clark along with significant injuries in two of the past three seasons. The risk to the Lions is low since he’s in a (hopefully) backup role and likely on just a 1-year deal. He should provide valuable experience for a position that has major health concerns in 2026 with Kerby Joseph (knee), Brian Branch (Achilles), Thomas Harper (concussions), and Dan Jackson (leg).
