The Washington Commanders hosted a local pro day for 37 prospects who are hoping to have their names called in the 2026 NFL Draft, and they should have these five players on their radar.

The Washington Commanders are two weeks away from being on the clock for the 2026 NFL Draft, where they’ll be adding more future pieces to the roster.

They only have six picks to work with, and they’ve been doing their homework all offseason to make sure they get it right, including top-30 visits with prospects on their board. The Commanders also held a local pro day for 37 NFL Draft prospects, and five stood out to me the most.

Zakee Wheatley, Safety, Penn State

Zakee Wheatley isn’t just an incredible human being, but he’s a ball who could help the Washington Commanders’ secondary immensely. After adding Nick Cross in free agency, the Commanders still need a blanket safety in coverage to protect the backend. Wheatley can do that while still being a physical run stopper as well. At 6-2, 202 pounds, Wheatley is a lockdown safety who can play single-high on an island and thrives in zone coverage.

He should strongly be considered at No. 71 overall if he falls that far, and it’s a bonus that his dad is a huge Washington fan in Maryland as well.

Bishop Fitzgerald, Safety USC

Bishop Fitzgerald is another safety prospect I’ve had circled for the Washington Commanders for a while now. He’s a ballhawk in the secondary, and some people have him ranked higher than his teammate Kamari Ramsey. Fitzgerald is 5-11, 205 pounds, and plays with excellent speed, instincts, and ball skills, with five interceptions in 2025. He would easily be the starting free safety next season, as would Wheatley, and they need his turnover ability in that safety room.

Mikail Kamara, EDGE, Indiana

Mikail Kamara will get dinged for being an older prospect and his measurements at just 6-1, 260 pounds, but he’s a day-three player you want to take a swing on. He plays with a high motor that the Commanders would love, and he has a quick burst off the line. Kamara knows how to get off blocks and attack the QB, but can also set the EDGE and disengage when the run game comes his way.

Josh Moten, CB, Southern Miss

The Commanders still need to add an outside CB after signing Amik Robertson in free agency, and Josh Moten is a day-three player who has a lot of upside. Moten more than held his own against Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith when he covered him. He’s 6-0, 185 pounds, and very competitive at the catch point. Moten has a trigger to read and react to plays that have me intrigued by what he could become.

Landon Robinson, DT, Navy

Landon Robinson is one of the most underrated players in the draft and is still heavily loved by many in the draft community. He has a chance to be the highest-drafted service academy player in a very long time, and rightfully so. Robinson is a powerful DT who plays much bigger than he is at 5-11, 287 pounds. He’s an athletic freak who would help the Commanders’ defensive line and is a possible pick in the fifth round.
