The Washington Commanders continue to prepare for the 2026 NFL Draft, which begins in just two weeks. On Wednesday, Washington hosted a local pro day for players from the DMV. All 32 NFL teams hold similar events right before the NFL draft every year. It’s an opportunity for local prospects in each market to showcase their abilities.

The local pro day also gives less-heralded prospects who weren’t invited to the NFL combine a chance to work out and perform drills in front of an NFL audience.

Washington invited 37 prospects to Ashburn on Wednesday, some of whom could go as high as the second round in this month’s NFL draft. The players were either from the DMV, or played locally.

The most notable names of the group are Navy running back Eli Heidenreich and USC safety Bishop Fitzgerald. The Commanders have shown interest in Fitzgerald throughout the pre-draft process, and he’s expected to be the highest pick among the players in Ashburn on Wednesday.
