GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – The Brown County chapter of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) received a $21,112 check on Thursday afternoon.
The DAV held a raffle at all Bart Starr Plaza tailgate parties throughout the NFL season, with Packers fans helping to raise those funds.
The money will now be distributed, helping veterans with things like rent, utilities, car payments, and anything else they may need assistance with.
“Veterans are very prideful. They’re very proud, and they don’t like to ask for help, so when they finally do come to us, they’re usually in a situation that’s a little bit harder than normal,” says Matt Kempainen, a chapter adjutant with the DAV of Wisconsin.
The chapter helps roughly 40-60 veterans per year. Depending on their needs, they spend anywhere from $60,000 to $130,000.
