The Florida Gators held their annual Orange and Blue spring game on Saturday and the coaching staff had several top prospects on campus to watch the game and interact with the staff.
Running back Tranard Roberts (5-11, 195, The Villages, FL. Charter) was on campus and he liked the running game as official visits are looming.
I like the way they pound the rock,” Roberts said on what stood out during the Spring game. “New staff, honestly, I’m just waiting to see how they do during the season, just waiting everything out. Official visits coming up, that’s when I will pretty much make my decision.”
Roberts has long been a top target for the Gators and he says he plans to spend more time around running backs coach Chris Foster this weekend.
“Me and Coach [Chris] Foster will be together later,” he said on the message from the coaching staff. “The bond is still there, and we’ve been getting things right. It’s been good, I came to spring practice and I got to go to the meetings and all that stuff like that. I think the new staff is better than the last one.”
The running back had the Gators as his leader last year under the old staff but he says the new staff brings a different energy to the building.
“The new staff comes with more intensity,” Roberts said. “That’s one thing I can say that’s different from the last one. The new staff comes with more intensity and the last one was more laid back. They’ll tell you what they want from you or you’ll tell them what you want from them. This new staff, they’re going to tell you what it is and put it all down on the table.”
Roberts liked the offense that offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner and his staff showed on Saturday as the running back believes he fits that style of running.
“Honestly the run concept,” he said on what he liked about the offense. “They did a power inside run and all that stuff and the routes that they have the running backs doing, that’s the type of running back I am. I want to do a lot of things.”
Earlier this year, Roberts didn’t have the Gators in his top five but he says Florida has moved back into that group now.
“They were number one back then,” Roberts said on Florida last year. “But now if I’m being honest, if I had number one then I’d be committed right now. So, I’m just leave it at pretty much my top five but Florida is definitely in the top five. My top five is, USC, Michigan, Florida, Ohio State, and Georgia.”
