Former Carolina Panthers wideout Ted Ginn Jr. has commented on his arrest from Saturday.
Ginn, now the head coach of the United Football League’s Columbus Aviators, was arrested yesterday in Dallas on DUI charges. The newly-turned 41-year-old, who is not on the sideline for his team’s matchup against the Dallas Renegades this afternoon, has issued the following statement regarding the incident through Twitter/X:
I want to address the situation that took place over the weekend.
I made a serious mistake and take full responsibility for my actions. I’ve always believed in accountability and now it’s my turn to live that standard.
I understand the responsibility that comes with being a leader & role model, and falling short of this is not something I take lightly. I’m committed to learning from this, making better decisions, and earning back the trust of my players, our organization, and the fans.
I appreciate the support of my family and the United Football League, and I respect the process as it moves forward. My focus now is on taking the necessary steps to grow from this and represent the Columbus Aviators and this community the right way.
Ginn played three of his 14 NFL seasons as a member of the Carolina Panthers, amassing 134 receptions for 2,047 yards and 19 touchdowns over 47 games. He was the team’s second-leading pass catcher during their run to Super Bowl 50 in 2015, where he recorded 739 receiving yards and a career-high 10 scores.
Aviators offensive coordinator Todd Haley assumed head-coaching duties in place of Ginn on Sunday.
