Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes reacts to exciting news in Kansas City.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is working hard to recover from the ACL tear he suffered in December.
While Mahomes’ goal to start in Week 1 seems lofty, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach believes he can do it.
“I’m not a doctor, but I know he’ll be ahead of schedule, and I know what’s going to happen in training camp,” Veach told Peter Schrager earlier this month. “He’s going to be begging Coach [Andy Reid] to play in that first preseason game.
“And hopefully there are no setbacks. Again, I’m not trying to make predictions, what have you, because I’m not a doctor, and it was a big injury. But it’ll be exciting to just see him, that first scramble, that first time he takes a hit, to see him get up, dust it off, and get right back to work.”

While the three-time Super Bowl champion continues rehab, he’s also keeping a close eye on the KC Current. Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, are co-owners of the NWSL team along with owners Chris Angie Long.
While the club got off to a rough start this season, sliding down a three-game losing streak after losing a total of three games last season, things are starting to turn around.
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Reacted to the First-Ever Hat Trick at CPKC Stadium
The Current won the 2026 Teal Rising Cup Championship game in a 6-1 victory over Brazil’s SE Palmeiras. During the match, Haley Hopkins recorded a hat trick – the first one notched in CPKC Stadium history and just the second in franchise history.
Mahomes reposted a video of the incredible moment on his Instagram Stories on April 12.
Hopkins was named the Teal Rising Cup Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row. And the win delivers a major boost for the struggling team amid the international break. ”
Energy is contagious within a team… and so is winning,” head coach Chris Armas said, per the KC Star. “That’s why it’s really important that the team experiences winning and scoring. Nothing else can give that to the player when you experience what that feels like.”
The Current returns to the regular NWSL season on April 24 when they travel to take on the Washington Spirit in D.C.
The KC Current’s Exponential Growth With Patrick & Brittany Mahomes as Co-Owners

After the Current’s extraordinary 2025 season ended in heartbreak, the club’s future remains bright. Four years after the Current played their first game of the 2021 season, they’ve become the second-most valuable franchise in the NWSL. Despite being the fourth-smallest market team, the Current owns the second-highest valuation of $275 million.
After opening CPKC Stadium, the first premier sports venue built primarily for a women’s sports team, Forbes reported that the KC Current generated a league-high $36 million in revenue in 2024.
Last July, the Current broke ground on a three-tiered expansion in Riverside, Missouri– Riverside Stadium, The Performance Center, and Pitch Expansion, totaling a $52 million investment. The owners celebrated the opening of the Performance Center and Riverside Stadium with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in February; however, Mahomes and his wife were not present.
