WASHINGTON (7News) — The Washington Commanders are going back in time while moving forward. The team unveiled its 2026 uniform closet on Wednesday, bringing back “Super Bowl-era” burgundy and white looks as primary uniforms, paired with a revamped gold pants design and updated block-style lettering.

The throwback-inspired design, which debuted last year, paid homage to the franchise’s Super Bowl-era aesthetic and was worn only twice during the season.

A new alternate uniform called the “Hail Raiser” was also announced. It’s an all-black look with a matte helmet featuring a spear-W logo, designed to represent a more modern identity.

The redesign incorporates elements inspired by the franchise’s past, like the spear — The NFL has been adding spear imagery over the last year in preparation for changes to the team’s branding.

The team’s “special delivery” announcement highlights updated styling tied to the franchise’s evolving identity in Washington. It marks the first update to the team’s primary look since the organization adopted its current name in 2022.

Fans will be able to buy the new gear starting Wednesday afternoon online and at the team store at Northwest Stadium.

The 2026 uniform closet includes:

Super Bowl Era Burgundy Jersey: The Commanders add a classic burgundy jersey as their primary inspired by the team’s Super Bowl Era dominance.Super Bowl Era White Jersey: The iconic white Super Bowl Era uniform steps into a primary role for 2026.Three-striped gloss burgundy helmet with gold facemask: Both the burgundy and white jerseys will be paired with a new gloss burgundy helmet featuring the signature three-stripe pattern and a gold facemask, bringing a legendary look back to the forefront.Gold Pants: Both the burgundy and white jerseys can be paired with the franchise’s classic gold pants. To keep a consistent visual identity across the entire closet these pants will feature two stripes.Block Style Font: A characteristic of uniforms throughout most of the team’s history, this style made an initial comeback on the Super Bowl Era alternate uniforms worn last season. Now, the burgundy and black versions will follow suit. The iconic, solid block style is seen on the front and back numbers, the shoulder pad number as well as the nameplate on the back of each jersey. Also new to the burgundy and black tops is the addition of a block number on the shoulder pad – a detail from the past that had been re-incorporated just on last year’s Super Bowl Era alternates. The same style of numbering and lettering is consistent across all three uniforms. The Hail Raiser: The “Hail Raiser,” which will serve as the team’s alternate uniform, is an all-black ensemble paired with a black helmet featuring a Spear W logo helmet decal on both sides. The black helmet is a “low gloss” giving it a matte look. The inclusion of the spear and its sharpest point – the spearhead or “tip of the spear” – symbolizes the top fighters, the front lines, those leading a mission who are unafraid to step into the fire. This alternate logo is a joining of past and present, with the spear and the W interwoven at their center. These all-black “alter egos” convey a stealth quality exhibited by elite units in battle and embody the identity of the Commander: a leader of warriors.Commanders unveil new uniforms on April 15, 2026. Inspiration for the uniform comes from the team’s Super Bowl-winning era, about 40 years ago.
