I can’t believe I have become one of the fans that I get so angry with in Tide Nation.

A fan with very little perspective. I think that is the keyword in sports, especially for die-hard fans. The word is perspective.
Let’s just look at how that word is defined:
Perspective is a particular attitude, way of regarding something, or point of view shaped by experience and personality. It refers to the ability to understand things in their true relative importance with true objectivity.
A point of view shaped by experience. Yeah, that’s an important thing when it comes to being a sports fan. So now, let me just go on my fan-crazy rant. There goes the 2026 Crimson Tide football season. Thanks a lot, Greg Byrne! The Tide just signed Head Coach Kalen DeBoer to a new seven-year pact.
We can look forward to nothing more than a repeat of the past two seasons, probably worse than the previous two.
We have given this head coach absolute and complete security and confidence that no matter what, he will be the coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide.
What is left to motivate someone when they have complete autonomy and security? I am a big believer that it is borderline dangerous when someone is put in that position.
What is left to keep you fighting, clawing, and scratching to get to the top and win a national championship in Tuscaloosa?
IS THE SEC STILL THE CONFERENCE IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL?
I understand what happened last season, when college football teams fired their head coaches. The news immediately claimed that Coach Deboer was the coach they were interested in hiring.
It happened with Penn State, and it happened with Michigan. Two schools that are a part of the new conference that reigns supreme in major college football.
I certainly hate to admit it, but the Big 10 is the dominant conference, and it’s not really close these days. That’s where I would’ve begun. I would’ve told our head coach to show me why you are the man to be our guy forevermore. Show me why you are the guy to reestablish the Southeastern Conference at the top of college football.
I find myself utterly terrified that we are going to be sitting here at the end of the 2026 season with not much that is different from before. I wanna win championships, but I absolutely do not want to play a Big Ten school in the playoffs and see how far we are from being competitive.
I would be encouraged if we make it to the college football playoff and lose in the later rounds 21-20 to Indiana or Ohio State. Yes, it would be a heartbreaker, but I would be encouraged if it looked as if we belonged on the same field.
I hope I am so dead wrong about this one. I want to look back at this article and laugh at how awful this prediction turned out.
Yes, that’s what I want, but we can’t always get what we want.
Thanks Mick Jagger.
