TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – State athletic officials have approved a couple of major changes to high school sports in Kansas.
The Kansas State High School Activities Association held its Spring Meeting Thursday. On the docket were votes to limit athletic activities or practice and sanction Girls Flag Football as a high school sport.
Approved first was the moratorium on activities during “a consecutive four-day period (including Easter Sunday) beginning at 6 p.m. on the Thursday before Easter running through the duration of Easter Sunday,” “on all Wednesdays from September until the end of April,” or on “all Sundays.”
Next up was the effort “to include Flag Football as a KSHSAA activity beginning with the 2026-27 school year.” This had a large push behind it, including support from the Kansas City Chiefs. The decision passed on a nearly unanimous vote.
