A longtime New England Patriots defender has reportedly found a new home.
Anfernee Jennings signed a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The pass rusher has played 75 games over five seasons with the Patriots.
New England drafted Jennings with the No. 87 pick of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Alabama. He notched two of his 7.5 career sacks last season despite playing a reduced role under head coach Mike Vrabel.
Jennings had started 30 games in 2023 and 2024 before garnering just three regular-season starts in 2025. He went from playing a career-high 831 defensive snaps for Jerod Mayo to 280 under Vrabel.
However, Jennings made his presence felt during New England’s AFC title run with 16 postseason tackles, two sacks and three quarterback hits. The 28-year-old recorded one of his six tackles for a loss when starting a Super Bowl LX loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
The Patriots saved $3.8 million in salary cap space by releasing Jennings in March. They also watched K’Lavon Chaisson sign a one-year contract with the Washington Commanders, but they addressed their pass rush by signing Dre’Mont Jones to a three-year deal and trading up to draft Gabe Jacas in the second round on Friday.
Jennings joins a Saints defense that tallied 45 sacks last season, 10 more than the Patriots. The move comes a day after they traded a fifth-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for Tyree Wilson, the No. 7 overall selection in 2023.
