Penn State football is building the 2027 College Football Recruiting class after the Matt Campbell hire. The Nittany Lions already landed two prospects on April 19. Now PSU won over a four-star talent from the grip of Kentucky and Virginia in Stanley Montgomery.

Montgomery confirmed his commitment to Penn State Thursday afternoon via Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals. Campbell and the coaching staff pull in the nation’s No. 9 overall defensive lineman in the process.

Campbell visited Montgomery at Archbishop Ryan High in Philadelphia during January according to the national outlet. Then defensive line coach Ikaika Malloe won him over with his practice energy.

“Coach Malloe has a very unique approach to teaching D-line, but it’s really proving to be effective, which I like,” Montgomery said to Blue and White Illustrated.

He also liked Malloe’s character when interacting with him during the spring practice visit.

“When speaking to him one-on-one, he is very personable and he’s the same way with his current players,” Montgomery added.

Montgomery rises as a massive local win for Campbell and PSU. He’s the Keystone State’s No. 5 overall prospect and a First-Team All-League standout. He’s not the lone four-star accepting Penn State’s offer either.

Four-star tight end Cooper Terwilliger verbally chose the Nittany Lions for the 2027 class, making his decision on April 13. Terwilliger even turned down Notre Dame for Campbell and the Lions. He brings a 6-foot-5, 235-pound athletic frame over to State College for the future.

Montgomery now becomes the 13th verbal commitment for this current class being put together by the ex-Iowa State head coach.
