Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford’s wife, Kelly, called out the media for not saying the player’s name right.

On Thursday night, via Instagram, Kelly Stafford posted that her husband is named Matthew, not “Matt,” as many people with the same name are called.

“When people don’t know him, they call him Matt,” Kelly wrote on her Stories. “What gets me is that he’s been playing in the league now for close to two decades and people who have jobs reporting on it, still call him Matt.

“I find it highly disrespectful, but honestly kinda goes along with Matthew’s whole career.”

Stafford has been regularly referred to as “Matt” by many in the sport, including players and media members during interviews.

However, Kelly is seemingly making it quite clear that her husband is to be referred to by his own, full name, and any shorthand will be treated as disrespectful.

Matthew Stafford’s career seemed to be ending quite soon after battling serious back issues before the 2025 season, but he went on to win the MVP award and was the best quarterback all year.

With his most recent high level of play, Stafford is seemingly intent on playing at least one more full season, but the Rams are talking to the quarterback about a longer-term contract.

Media and figures within the NFL world will need to get used to calling Stafford by his full name or risk the wrath of another statement from Kelly calling them out.
