Cleveland Browns legend Bernie Kosar back in hospital months after liver transplant

  • May 2, 2026

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar shared on social media Saturday morning that he is back in the hospital for another procedure.

While he did not specify what procedure he was undergoing, he did say in a video on Facebook, “Going a little to hard. Found my way back into the hospital. Lets get this procedure over with and have a winning day. See you next week. UMatter.”

In summer 2024, Kosar was diagnosed with liver failure and Parkinson’s disease.

The update comes months after Kosar’s liver transplant back on Nov. 17, 2025. Since then, Kosar has experienced a series of complications and hospital readmissions, including E. coli blood poisoning in December 2025.

Kosar was also in the hospital early January due to what he described as a small rejection of his transplant.

The legendary quarterback received the liver from Bryce Dunlap, 21, of North Olmsted.

Dunlap passed away unexpectedly due to complications from an anoxic brain injury.

Kosar publicly thanked Dunlap’s family on his Facebook page and called the transplant “great gift.”

The legendary quarterback also made an appearance Friday at the groundbreaking for the new Cleveland Browns stadium in Brook Park, calling it a, “big night to be apart of” on his social media.
