The Miami Dolphins gave Malik Willis $45 million guaranteed to be their quarterback for the next three seasons. Luckily for Miami, Willis will be asked to throw a football and not a baseball.
Willis was invited to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at a Miami Marlins game on Friday and it was nothing short of a disaster. Somewhere, Buffalo Bills defensive backs were likely licking their lips seeing the throw.
The pitch may have sailed far off the target, but Dolphins fans can rejoice in the fact that Willis’ throwing strength seems far better than that of the previous starter, Tua Tagovailoa.

Willis said the errant throw was due to him slipping on the mound.
The Dolphins signed Willis to a three-year, $67.5 million contract in free agency. Miami’s new head coach, Jeff Hafley, was with Willis on the Green Bay Packers from 2024 to 2025.
In 11 games (3 starts) with the Packers over the two seasons, Willis completed 78.7 percent of his passes for 972 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions. Willis was originally selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. After two seasons in Tennessee, the Titans traded Willis to the Packers for a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
