Back in 2020, Alabama decided to add Ohio State to its schedule for the 2027 and 2028 schedules. Now, the SEC has decided to move to a nine-game conference schedule.
Due to changes in scheduling rules, Alabama cancelled its series with Oklahoma State and has also made a decision on its series with Ohio State, according to Brett McMurphy of On3.
The Crimson Tide and Buckeyes will continue on with their home-and-home series. Alabama will visit Ohio State in September 2027, while it will host Ohio State in 2028. Alabama needed to cancel one game for 2028. They had Georgia State, Ohio State, UT Martin, and a road trip to Oklahoma State all on the schedule, and with a nine-game conference schedule, one had to go. Keeping the two non-power conference opponents was the logical choice. The Tide now has an opening for 2029, where they have a road trip to Notre Dame scheduled in non-conference play.
Meanwhile, Ohio State will play Bowling Green and New Hampshire, along with Alabama in 2027, before hosting Buffalo and Northern Illinois in 2028. Ohio State has made a habit of playing big early-season games. They opened the 2025 campaign by hosting Texas and will visit them in 2026. They also have Georgia on the schedule for 2030 and 2031.
Oklahoma State also had to make a move. They needed to fill the hole in 2028 and 2029 that arrived when Alabama cancelled. Oklahoma State will face Michigan State in 2028 and 2029. In 2028, the Cowboys will also face Tulsa and Southeastern Louisiana, while facing both Tulas and Lindenwood in 2029.
