There’s a good chance the New York Giants will play an overseas game this season in John Harbaugh’s first season as their head coach. Those chances appear even better in one European city, but we’ll get to that.
This increased speculation – albeit informed – is because the NFL has scheduled a record NINE international games for the 2026 season, spanning three continents − Europe, South America and Australia − and seven countries.
The NFL schedule was initially expected to be released between May 12-14, but recent reports have indicated that the league could push the announcement another week. The Giants, like every team, know their opponents both home and away. But they don’t know when the games are being played yet.
The home teams have been announced for all nine international games, and two of those games have also named the visiting team. Because of the 17-game schedule, the NFC and AFC alternate between having nine home games each season.
This season is the NFC’s turn with an extra home game. Thus, the home teams for the international games in 2026 are from the NFC, except for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who play at least one game in London each season. This season, the Jaguars have two London games.
Where Giants CAN’T play overseasFrance game
The New Orleans Saints are the designated home team for the game in Paris. The Giants will host New Orleans at MetLife Stadium this season, so this is out as an option.
Spain game
The Atlanta Falcons are the home team for the game in Madrid. The Giants don’t play the Falcons this season.
Australia game
The opponents have already been determined. The Los Angeles Rams are the home team. That would have been a potential spot for the Giants, but the Rams are facing their NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne.
Mexico game
The 49ers are the home team in this game. The Giants will face the 49ers this season, but that game will be at the Meadowlands.
Brazil game
The Dallas Cowboys are the home team in Rio de Janeiro. The Giants do face the NFC East rival Cowboys both at home and on the road this season, as is customary. But the Ravens were announced as the Cowboys’ opponent.
London games vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
There are three games in London this season, with the Jaguars playing in two of them − one at Wembley Stadium and the other at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The catch here: the Giants will play the Jaguars this season, but they are the home team and will welcome Jacksonville to the Meadowlands.
Where Giants CAN play overseasGermany game
This is the destination that seems likeliest for the Giants, even after the Detroit Lions were announced as the home team for the game in Munich. The Giants have done a lot of community work and promotion in recent years in Germany, where they played two seasons ago and lost for the first time in four international trips in overtime to the Carolina Panthers.
London games
Would the NFL put an old school NFC East showdown in London? It’s possible. The Washington Commanders are scheduled to be the home team at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which is where the Giants beat the Green Bay Packers in 2022. It was such a great scene between two flagship franchises. The Giants are undefeated in London with wins in 2007, 2016 and 2022.
