After nearly 600 days away from the game, Tank Dell is ready to remind the NFL exactly who he is.
The Houston Texans wide receiver suffered one of the most gut-wrenching injuries in recent memory back in December 2024, when his leg bent grotesquely on a touchdown catch against the Kansas City Chiefs. The diagnosis was devastating, and it was one that required multiple surgeries and an extensive, grueling rehabilitation process that kept him sidelined for the entire 2025 season.

But Dell never stopped grinding. Workout clips posted to social media gave fans a steady stream of hope, and those closest to him saw firsthand the relentless work ethic that has defined his young career. Head coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed his expected return heading into 2026, and Dell himself put it simply when he addressed the media earlier this year: “I’m back. I feel like I’m feeling good right now. Once the season comes, we’re gonna cook up.”
Nobody is more excited about that return than his teammate and fellow receiver Nico Collins, who had this to say to Aaron Wilson, a popular beat writer for the Texans: “Tank Dell looked good. I’m glad he’s back now and getting his groove back. You know how much this game means to him, and nobody wants to get hurt the way he did. So, his work ethic, his mindset on the road to recovery was amazing. So, it’s only right he get back on the field with us, with his brothers, get back to what he’s been doing. I’m happy he’s back.”
Collins’ words speak to just how much Dell means to this locker room, not just as a weapon on offense, but as a teammate who is trying to get back on the field.
In 25 career games with Houston, Dell has hauled in 98 receptions for 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns. As a rookie in 2023, he set the Texans’ franchise record for most receiving touchdowns by a first-year player with seven. Even returning from a fractured fibula in 2024, he managed 51 catches for 667 yards in 14 games. The talent has never been in question, but staying healthy has been the challenge.

With Christian Kirk now in San Francisco, there is a clear path for Dell to reclaim his role as Houston’s primary slot receiver. Paired alongside Collins and quarterback C.J. Stroud, the Texans’ passing attack suddenly looks a lot more dangerous heading into 2026. It is worth noting that Stroud has always performed better when Dell is also on the field.
The comeback story is still being written, but one thing is clear: Tank Dell has done the hard part. Now it’s time for football.
