Charles Young, a USC grad in 1973 who played for the Los Angeles Rams and appeared in Super Bowl XIV with the team, died this week. He was 75.

Young had a decorated and successful career at both the college and pro levels. In 1972, Young won a national championship with the Trojans and was named a unanimous All-American that season. That catapulted Young into being the sixth overall pick of the 1973 draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was a Pro Bowler and an All-Pro in his first three seasons.

Although those were Young’s most successful seasons statistically, he later ended up going to two Super Bowls, including with the Rams in 1979 under Ray Malavasi, and then the 49ers in 1981 under Bill Walsh, leading to his first and only ring. Young also caught a 14-yard pass in that win over the Bengals.
