San Diego State football season-ticket sales are “trending upward after three straight years of decline,” a “product of last year’s nine-win season, anticipation for this year’s move to the reconstituted Pac-12 and a decrease in ticket prices,” according to Kirk Kenney of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. A school official reported that season-ticket sales stood at 7,162 this week. Kenney noted that number is about 1,500 ahead of last year’s total at this time, and the Aztecs “could approach 10,000 season-ticket sales if the pace is similar to last year over the same time period.” The Aztecs’ “goal this year was to reach a 90% renewal rate,” and they are “close,” with renewals at 87% (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 5/13).
DRIVING TO THE BASKET: In San Diego, Mark Zeigler reported that basketball season tickets “are going up” as the school sent out renewal forms Wednesday with an “across-the-board 7.5% increase” following what many fans consider “one of the most disappointing seasons in years.” The basketball team has cultivated a “more loyal and robust fan base” than the football program, having reached 12 of the past 16 NCAA Tournaments. Last year, the bump following a Sweet 16 appearance was a “more modest 2.5%” (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 5/13).
