The university is engaging in “feasibility studies” to determine potential renovations for Albertsons Stadium and ExtraMile Arena.
BOISE, Idaho — Boise State Athletics is looking to potentially update its facilities, including its football stadium and basketball arena, to create a more “dynamic destination” for athletics.
The university announced in a news release Thursday that it selected MMQ Group, a sports architecture and planning firm, to conduct feasibility studies for Albertsons Stadium and ExtraMile Arena. MMQ Group said the study will help provide “data-driven, implementation-ready recommendations” to increase revenue and drive a better fan experience.
Boise State Athletics identified a couple of key areas for analysis at both venues.
For Albertsons Stadium, the study will evaluate:
Structure on the east side of the stadiumWidening the concourse to improve circulationExpanding restrooms and concessionsProviding spaces for guest servicesExpanding capacity for the lower bowl of the entire stadium
For ExtraMile Arena, Boise State hopes to evaluate the following:
Premium seating strategyPotential basketball practice and team space enhancementsEnlarged concoursesReimagining of the main entry to the arenaAdded restroom and concession spacesImprovements for “back of house” spaces for concerts and other large events
The study is expected to be complete by the end of the summer.
“This is another step in What’s Next 2.0, revealed last summer, for the two most important revenue and fan-experience assets at Boise State,” Jeramiah Dickey, Boise State Director of Athletics, said in a news release. “We appreciate MMQ Group in doing the study within our 12-week timeline so we can hit the ground running this summer as we engage with key stakeholders around planning, funding, and near- and long-term facilities work.”
Boise State’s venues were assessed by AECOM, a local engineering company, back in 2021. They say the new study will build upon AECOM’s work, which identified “12 critical priorities” for athletics’ success and sustainability.
