The New York Jets waived former Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Chris Smith, per the Jets’ official website. The Jets are the third NFL team to waive Smith in the past year.
The Las Vegas Raiders, who drafted Smith out of Georgia, waived Smith in November after he appeared in nine games. The Los Angeles Rams picked up Smith off waivers and he appeared in four games with the team before he was waived again. New York claimed Smith off waivers on Dec. 24. Smith played in one game with the Jets.
The Jets waived Smith with an injury settlement although it is unclear what Smith’s injury is at this time. Smith has appeared in 41 games during his three-year NFL career, but has only 10 career tackles.
Smith was a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft. He won back-to-back national championships to close his career at Georgia. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound safety is looking for a new NFL home.
