The Chicago Bears are set pretty well when it comes to contracts.

Most of their top players are still on rookie deals. Caleb Williams, Kyle Monangai, Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, Ozzy Trapilo, Colston Loveland, and others are still on their first contracts with the team.

Just as we are a few more months away from the beginning of the 2026 season, predictions are starting to be made about the 2027 offseason, regarding what positions will demand the most contract money.

The Bears are set up pretty well, but they still have big contract decisions on the horizon. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, NFL Executives agree that offensive tackle is going to be one of the positions demanding the most money next offseason.

For the Bears, Darnell Wright‘s contract isn’t set to run out until 2028. However, the team could decide whether or not to pick up his fifth-year option in 2027.

“What’s the next position to explode in contract value a year from now?” Fowler asked. “The answer is complicated. Executives agree that offensive tackle should be primed for a jump, with Washington’s Laremy Tunsil the only tackle earning above $30 million per year. But those same execs are not convinced that the jump will happen, because many of the premier players at the position are older and already well paid. Chicago’s Darnell Wright and Los AngelesJoe Alt are upcoming names to watch there.”

Per Spotrac, Wright’s market value is now at $19.5 million, but if what the executives are saying is true, the Bears may have to pay even more than that if they want to keep him after his contract expires.

He has been with the Bears since 2023 after being drafted out of Tennessee. He’s played primarily at right tackle for the Bears.

Wright has only missed two games throughout his NFL career. Last season, he didn’t initially travel with the team to play the San Francisco 49ers due to an illness, but came up later, showcasing his commitment to the team.

As Bears fans know, the right side of the offensive line wasn’t a problem last year, which is due in part to Wright. At the same time, left tackle continues to be an issue with the late-season injury to Trapilo.

Braxton Jones and Theo Benedet are back to be placeholders until Trapilo is able to see the field.

However, fans have to feel good knowing that Wright is going to anchor on the opposite side of the line for a few more years.
