There were no conference titles for any Hancock College athletics team during the 2024-25 school year. However, the school year was a productive one for several Hancock squads in general and for sophomore swimmer Noemi Bravo Guzman in particular.
Bravo Guzman finished a Hancock career in which she had a part of 13 school records (11 individual events and two relays) by winning twice at the 3C2A Swimming and Diving Championships that took place at Santa Rosa College earlier this month.
The Righetti High School graduate successfully defended her state title in the women’s 200 backstroke, winning handily in 2 minutes, 01.70 seconds. Bravo Guzman also won the 200 individual medley (2:05.71). She finished second in the 400 individual medley.
By herself, Bravo-Guzman scored 57 points, good for a 19th-place Hancock finish out of 34 teams.
Bravo Guzman will leave Hancock with three state championships, four Western State Conference titles and 10 All-American awards. Bravo-Guzman signed with San Jose State Wednesday.
Another strong finish for women’s cross country team
Under second-year coach Steven Youngblood, the Bulldogs finished second at the Western State Conference Meet for the second straight year and qualified for the 3C2A championship for the second straight season. Sophomore Itandehui Olea led the Bulldogs again, this time with a third-place finish at the conference meet.
Men’s basketball team second in conference again
The Bulldogs finished second behind Moorpark in the Western State Conference North Division for the second straight season. This time, Hancock wound up 19-10, 9-3 under veteran coach Tyson Aye, a game behind Moorpark.
Sophomore forward Ay-Keen Richardson led the team in scoring at 13.8 points a game. Despite battling injuries part of the season, freshman guard Trenten Lavender averaged 10.8 points a game for his 21 games played.
Santa Ana beat Hancock 64-48 in the first round of the Southern Cal Regional Playoffs.
Football team qualifies for another bowl game

The Bulldogs qualified for a bowl game for the third consecutive year, this time losing 28-7 at Huntington Beach-based Golden West in the Southern California Bowl.
Hancock won in its 2022 and 2023 bowl game appearances.
After getting a share of the Northern League championship in 2023 and 2024, the Bulldogs finished fourth, at 4-3, under second-year coach Ricky Aguilar in 2025.Â
Wide receiver Makai Puga led the state in receptions yardage at 1,146. Puga also caught 11 touchdown passes while playing for a Hancock team that has traditionally relied heavily on its ground attack. Puga signed with Cal Poly recently.
Sophomore running back Caden Harris went over the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the second straight season. Harris ran for 1,007 yards and 12 touchdowns in 10 games played.
Baseball team makes playoffs again
Veteran Hancock coach Chris Stevens’ squad finished the regular season with a strong push, winning eight of 10 to qualify for the Southern Cal Regional for the third straight year.
The Bulldogs wound up 22-20, 13-11. Hancock exited in the first round of the regional. losing to Cerritos.
Hancock freshman catcher Josue Garcia had a big year in first season of collegiate baseball. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate led the Bulldogs in hits (67), RBIs (43) and slugging percentage (.528) as well as bases on balls (20). Garcia also led the Hancock regulars in batting average (.411) and on base percentage (.500).
Track and field: Three state meet qualifiers
Hancock freshmen Jacob Garbiso (men’s shot put), Esequiel Gauna (javelin) and Juan Santiago (10,000 meters) all qualified for the 3C2A Championship that took place at San Mateo College.
Garbiso finished seventh. Gauna and Santiago both finished 12th. Garbiso graduated from Arroyo Grande High School. Gauna and Santiago both graduated from Pioneer Valley.Â
