The Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel controversy has already moved far beyond the original photos that first sparked the NFL media storm, and a resurfaced video has now pushed the story back into another cycle of online reaction.
The latest attention came after an old Mother’s Day video of Russini went viral on X, where it quickly drew more than a million views.

The video doesn’t suggest anything about the Patriots coach or Russini. But in a story that has become driven by images, old clips and social media interpretation, its timing was enough to bring renewed scrutiny.
Russini has been at the center of online speculation since Page Six published photos of her and Vrabel together at an Arizona resort. Both denied that the images showed anything improper.
Vrabel told the New York Post: “These photos show a completely innocent interaction and any suggestion otherwise is laughable. This doesn’t deserve any further response.”
Russini also pushed back on the interpretation, saying: “The photos don’t represent the group of six people who were hanging out during the day.”
Old clips keep fueling the story
The Mother’s Day video is only the latest piece of resurfaced content to gain traction.
Earlier this week, an old 2021 video appearing to show Russini and Vrabel on a private boat trip in Tennessee also spread across social media. That clip attracted extra attention because Russini appeared visibly pregnant at the time.
Another resurfaced segment from a June 2021 Barstool Sports appearance also circulated, with fans focusing on Russini’s comments and Vrabel’s reaction during the interview.
The constant resurfacing of old footage has kept the controversy alive even as both central figures have denied wrongdoing. Russini has since resigned from The Athletic, while Vrabel remains the head coach of the New England Patriots.
The Guardian reported that Russini left The Athletic amid what was described as “self-feeding speculation” after the photos with Vrabel prompted an internal review. The NFL has not publicly announced discipline for Vrabel over the matter.

Revenge theory adds more speculation
The story took another turn when journalist John Ziegler posted a theory on X suggesting that Russini’s husband, Kevin Goldschmidt, may have been sitting on older footage before releasing it strategically.
“What if… Her husband has been sitting on the 2020 & 2021 footage,” Ziegler wrote, before suggesting the material could be released “piece by piece as part of a brilliantly evil plot for maximum revenge.”
The theory gained traction because the controversy has already become a mix of media reporting, online detective work and personal speculation.
Russini and Goldschmidt were recently seen together on Mother’s Day, their first public appearance since the Vrabel photos became a national talking point.
For now, the latest viral video does not change the established facts. It does, however, show how little control Russini or Vrabel have over the story now.
Every old post, clip or image is being reexamined through the same lens. And until the NFL conversation turns fully back to football, the controversy appears unlikely to disappear.
