PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Arizona Cardinals held their first full-team practice since the NFL Draft on Monday, but there was one notable player not in attendance.
Rookies and veterans began the next phase of the voluntary offseason program, with the offense going against the defense in 11-on-11 drills. Veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett was absent from the voluntary practice.
Brissett, Arizona’s returning starter, is reportedly seeking a contract extension. Head coach Mike LaFleur said nothing has changed regarding the quarterback’s situation.
“It’s not mandatory, right? And like I’ve said with Jacoby and all veterans I’ve ever been around, they’ve played football,” LaFleur said. “The hardest thing to do in this league is get used to the speed of the game. And even for not just the rookie, but the second year, third year guy, and he’s played a lot of football. He’s done probably everything that we’ve ever done schematically. It’s just a little bit different verbiage.”
LaFleur said he has had contact with Brissett but declined to provide further details.
