The Patriots brought in potential edge defender depth on Tuesday.
Janarius Robinson was in Foxboro on Tuesday for a workout with the defending AFC champions, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported. The 6-foot-5, 263-pound defender was most recently with the Chiefs in 2025.
Robinson, 27, was selected by the Vikings in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Florida State. He’s also spent time with the Eagles (2022) and Raiders (2023-2024).
In 16 career games with three starts, Robinson has 1.5 sacks, 13 tackles, one tackle for loss, four QB hits and a pass defense. All of his NFL action has come with the Raiders.
Robinson was a four-star recruit coming out of Bay (Panama City, Fla.) High School before attending Florida State. He registered eight sacks, 105 tackles. 20.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and three pass defenses in four years with the Seminoles.
He overlapped with Patriots’ outside linebackers coach Mike Smith in 2022 with the Vikings.
“J-Rob, the first thing you say about him is he’s long,” Smith said of Robinson in 2022. “He’s (a) guy who can scratch his ankles standing up. He’s got the longest arms in the room.”
Robinson has elite length with 35 1/4-inch arms and an 86 1/4-inch wingspan. He ran a 4.69-second 40-yard dash with a 1.64-second 10-yard split at his pro day in 2021, also adding a 34-inch vertical leap, 10-feet, 1-inch broad jump, 4.46-second short shuttle and 7.31-second 3-cone drill.
If signed, Robinson would join Harold Landry III, Dre’Mont Jones, Gabe Jacas, Elijah Ponder, Jesse Luketa, Quintayvious Hutchins, Bradyn Swinson and Xavier Holmes on the Patriots’ outside linebacker Depth Chart.
Landry and Jones project as starters with Jacas and Ponder providing key depth. If the Patriots keep a fifth outside linebacker, it would come down to Luketa, Hutchins, Swinson and Holmes.
Landry missed time late last season with a knee injury originally suffered in Week 6. Jones was brought in this offseason as a free agent to replace K’Lavon Chaisson, who left for the Commanders. The Patriots traded up to select Jacas in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft out of Illinois then later added Hutchins in the seventh round. Luketa was signed as a veteran free agent after spending time with the Cardinals and Rams last season. Swinson, a 2025 fifth-round pick, played sparingly last season and spent time on the practice squad. Holmes, a UDFA out of James Madison, was signed after trying out at Patriots rookie minicamp earlier this month.
