The Kansas City Chiefs got some rough news earlier this week when it was revealed that wide receiver Rashee Rice had violated his probation for a failed drug test, resulting in a 30-day jail sentence. Rice will now miss some of the important parts of offseason training for the Chiefs as they look to bounce back after missing the playoffs altogether in 2025.
One of the hottest names on the trade market is Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown, whom many have linked to a potential trade with the New England Patriots later this offseason, and recently, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated contemplated the idea of a Chiefs trade for the star.
“Do they go back, do they circle back and maybe look at the idea of trading for AJ Brown? I don’t think that happens. They had that opportunity. They were on AJ Brown’s list. They said no to the Eagles in the first place. But I think if you’re the Chiefs, you have to look at all of these things going forward, because Rashee Rice clearly looks like somebody that you have not been able to rely on,” said Breer, per Sports Illustrated on YouTube.
Rice was on probation due to his role in a 2024 hit and run incident, which resulted in initial jail time as well as a six-game suspension that he served last year.
Rice is far and away the best wide receiver on the Chiefs roster, but as Breer mentioned, his off-the-field troubles have threatened to limit how impactful he can be for the franchise.
While it doesn’t appear that Brown will be in the cards for the Chiefs moving forward this offseason, it wouldn’t be a shock to see the team look to add another downfield weapon for Patrick Mahomes.
