Walker quietly became one of Atlanta’s most impactful defenders during the 2025 season, finishing with 36 total tackles, 24 solo stops, 5.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. While those numbers may not immediately jump off the page compared to some rookie edge rushers around the league, Falcons coaches and analysts believe Walker’s influence extended far beyond the stat sheet.

The former Georgia standout consistently flashed elite athleticism and football IQ, often lining up in multiple positions across Atlanta’s defense. Many analysts have  highlighted Walker as one of the league’s top second-year breakout candidates, noting that defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich plans to further utilize his versatility in 2026.

Falcons expect Walker’s year 2 leap

Atlanta’s coaching staff has reportedly been especially encouraged by Walker’s development as a pass rusher. Multiple  reports have mentioned  that Walker’s rookie season showed steady growth and improvement on the edge despite entering the NFL viewed as a long-term project.  With changes throughout the Falcons’ defensive front and more opportunities expected this season, Walker is projected to become the centerpiece of the pass rush.

Walker’s physical style already made him a force against the run last year. Analysts  also praised his ability to shed blockers, disrupt pulling linemen and create chaos in the backfield.

Before entering the NFL, Walker starred at Georgia, where he won the 2024 Butkus Award after recording 60 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks during his final collegiate season.

Now entering Year 2, expectations in Atlanta are rapidly rising. If Walker continues progressing as both a pass rusher and hybrid linebacker, the Falcons may finally have the defensive playmaker they have been searching for over the past several seasons.
