Many believe that if the Philadelphia Eagles agree to trade A.J. Brown in June after a rocky, tumultuous 2025-26 campaign, the New England Patriots will finish first in the race to acquire the three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver.

That said, other franchises have the assets to steal the Patriots’ No. 1 trade target, making things interesting heading into the new month. According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs are intriguing landing spots for Brown this summer (while Breer also mentioned the Los Angeles Rams, he noted that it’s unlikely they’ll aggressively pursue the three-time All-Pro wideout).

“The Chiefs maybe look at it now and say, ‘We won’t be able to rely on (Rashee) Rice, so we need to bring in reinforcements,” Breer stated Thursday. “The Chiefs were one of five teams that A.J. Brown said ‘Ok, I would go there’ to the Eagles.”

“The Jaguars are an interesting one to consider, because (general manager) James Gladstone, (executive vice president of football operations) Tony Boselli, and (head coach) Liam Coen have been there now for a year-and-a-half, and they have taken big swings.”

“They have a young piece in Brian Thomas Jr., who might actually appeal to the Eagles.”

As Breer noted, Rice’s off-field shenanigans (violating his probation) make it more sense than ever to make an effort to poach the former Tennessee Titans star from Philadelphia.

Patrick Mahomes needs an elite, go-to receiving option upon returning from his significant ACL injury, and Brown would undoubtedly fit the bill. Despite being dissatisfied with his role in Philadelphia this past season, the Ole Miss product, known for his deep ball playmaking and YAC (yards after catch) success, totaled 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns in seven games.

Regarding the Jaguars, the AFC South franchise is looking to take the next step after an encouraging 2025-26 season (13-4 record and playoff berth). Landing Brown would provide Trevor Lawrence with the best WR teammate he’s had in Jacksonville, likely helping the organization continue on an upward trajectory.

Of course, the Patriots will remain in the lead for a potential trade for Brown, but the Chiefs and Jaguars may not be as far behind as many think.
